Maytag washer error codes will appear when there is a problem with the washer. Most of the time, there will be an easy fix for the error code. In other cases, resolving the error code may require a trained technician to troubleshoot a defective part that likely needs to be replaced.

Maytag Top-Load and Front-Load Washer Error Codes

F#, F##, or E# Error Codes

If the washer displays an F#, F##, or E# error code that is not listed below, the error code is likely caused by a defective part that requires a trained technician to troubleshoot and fix the problem. All error codes should be able to be cleared by unplugging the washer for one minute. However, if the error code returns, the cause of the error will need to be identified and the problem fixed to avoid further damaging the washer.

Sud or SD

On both top-loader and front-loader washers, the Sud or SD error code means there are too many suds in the washer. If there are too many suds, the washer cannot effectively spin the water out of the load. To combat the issue, the washer will pause and add water to try and dissipate the suds. To avoid the error code, check that your detergent is not causing the suds issue. Make sure you use an HE detergent and check the instructions for “no splash” or “easy pour” detergents as these often cause too many suds. If the issue persists, check that the drain hose or standpipe (drainpipe) is not clogged as this can cause the excess suds issue.

Maytag Front-Loader Washer Error Codes

LOC or LC

The control lock has been activated. When the control lock is activated, wash cycles cannot be started or changed. Disable the control lock to return the washer to normal operations.

Int

The cycle was paused or canceled. The washer may display this error code during the spin or drain cycles. If the washer was paused, unpause it to continue the cycle. To clear the error code, press the Pause or Cancel button twice, and the Power button once. If the error code is not resolved, unplug the washer for one minute to clear it.

dET

The detergent cartridge is not detected in the dispenser. The dET error code only applies to models that use a detergent cartridge, such as Load & Go cartridges, and not washers that use single-load doses of detergent. Ensure there is a cartridge in the dispenser and that it is inserted correctly. Check that the dispenser drawer is also closed properly to resolve the error code.

F5 E2

The door is not locking correctly. Check that the door is closing completely and there is nothing blocking the lock. Press the Pause or Cancel button twice and the Power button once to clear the error code. The door lock assembly or door switch may need to be replaced to resolve the issue.

F7 E1

The washer detects that the correct speed for the cycle is not being reached. To resolve the error code, make sure the drum is not overloaded and that all the shipping bolts were removed (relevant if the washer is new or recently installed). If the issue persists, a trained technician is likely required to troubleshoot the issue.

F8 E1 or LO FL

The washer senses there is a low flow of water, meaning there is not enough water coming into the washer. To resolve the error code, check that the water supply to the washer is turned on and is providing enough water. Also, check that the water inlet hoses are not kinked, and there are no anti-flood hoses and controls in the water line connected to the washer. Clogged water inlet valve filters may also be causing the error code.

F8 E2

The washer detects a problem with the Dispenser System. To resolve the error code, make sure the detergent drawer or detergent cartridge is not clogged with detergent. Clean the detergent drawer, removing detergent residue, to stop the error code from reoccurring.

F9 E1

The washer is taking too long to drain (usually more than eight minutes). The drain hose should be checked for kinks or blockages to fix the issue. The drain hose should also be checked to make sure it is installed to the correct specifications. The washer’s pump may also be clogged or defective and causing the issue. Too many suds in the washer can also cause this issue. Using an HE detergent can resolve the issue if it is caused by too many suds.

rL or F34

Items detected in the washer drum during a Clean Washer cycle. To clear the error code, make sure the drum is empty when running the Clean Washer cycle.

Maytag Top-Loader Washer Error Codes

LF, Lo FL, or F8 E1

The washer is taking too long to fill with water. There is likely an issue with the water supply to the washer. Check that the washer is receiving water, with enough water pressure, to resolve the error code. Checking the filters in the water inlet valves are not clogged may also resolve the error code. Make sure your washer is receiving both hot and cold water as it requires both to operate.

lid

The lid has been left open. Close the lid to resolve the error code. If the lid is left open for more than ten minutes, the washer will cancel the cycle and drain the water. Once you have closed the lid, begin the cycle again.

Ofb

The washer senses the load is unbalanced. To resolve the error code, redistribute the load in the washer so that it is balanced. Removing or adding an item or two may also balance out the load. Make sure to select the correct wash option when washing large, bulky items.

OL

The washer is overloaded. When the washer detects it is overloaded, it will drain the water and detergent from the washer. To clear the error code before it drains, you may be able to remove items from the washer. Ensuring you are using an HE detergent may stop the error code from occurring because of too many suds.

drn

The washer is not draining correctly. The “drn” error code often occurs when the washer has recently been installed and the drain hose has not been installed to the correct specifications. If the washer is not draining, check for a clogged drain hose or pump that is likely causing the issue.

HC

The hot water hose is connected to the cold water inlet, and the cold water hose is connected to the hot water inlet. Reverse the hoses to fix the issue.

LdL

The washer lid is not locking. Check that an item in the washer or detergent residue around the lock is not stopping or hindering the lock. The lock assembly or lock switch may need to be replaced to solve the issue.

LdU

The washer’s lid cannot unlock. The LdU error code is triggered when there is something on the washer lid that is preventing it from opening. Remove items that are on the washer lid to resolve the error code.

PF

A power failure has occurred during a wash cycle. Holding Start for ten seconds or pressing Power to clear the display should resolve the issue. If the error code remains, unplug the washer for one minute to reset it.
